AmeriCorner Fall 2018 Edition AmeriCorps Advantage Career Resource Guide – Statewide Training Opportunity! The AmeriCorps Advantage Career Resource Guide is designed to take members on a journey of career discovery as they move through their year of service. Through exercises, assessment and exploration, this comprehensive and high quality guide will enable members to effectively transition to educational and career opportunities after they complete their service term. CaliforniaVolunteers is sending Andrea Weiss, creator of the AmeriCorps Advantage Career Resource Guide and the AmeriCorps Advantage Facilitator’s Guide on a Training Road Show! CV is dedicated to building the capacity of our programs in this critical area and will provide two half-day training sessions (Fall and Spring) for AmeriCorps Program Staff. Andrea will ‘train the trainer,’ offering insight on training techniques, adult learning styles, and suggestions for interactive activities, to prepare staff to use the AmeriCorps Advantage with their AmeriCorps members. As an added bonus, Andrea will offer additional training just for AmeriCorps members, with practical instruction and insight as they prepare for Life After AmeriCorps. Look for more information soon on training dates for both program staff AND members. AmeriCorps 18-19 Grantee Training Calendar is set! AmeriCorps is a wonderful, but complex grant, combining both national service members (people!) and funding (federal dollars!) to allow strong program development. It requires careful planning, awareness of federal requirements, and devoted staffing and partners to implement well. As a state commission, CaliforniaVolunteers works hard to be sure our program staff have all that they need in training and technical assistance. In the 18-19 program year our staff will provide 21 webinars, two in-person Boot Camps and join with our programs at a regional AmeriCorps training conference this spring. Please reach out to Tara Baltzley (Tara.Baltzley@cv.ca.gov), if you are interested in participating!
