Our Program

Bay Area Youth Agency Consortium (BAYAC) is a collaborative of youth organizations whose mission is to expand services and opportunities for youth in high-risk San Francisco Bay Area communities so that they can create productive, successful lives for themselves. The BAYAC AmeriCorps program has been in operation since 1994. The majority of youth in the communities where BAYAC serves have limited resources for positive development resulting in challenges to academic achievement.  BAYAC AmeriCorps Members provide direct services to youth in some of the Bay Area’s most under-served communities. BAYAC partners with local schools, non-profit organizations, and youth oriented programs to support the population they serve with full-time AmeriCorps volunteers who provide academic and social emotional support to approximately 3,200 youth per year.

I chose to serve because working with youth has always been a dream of mine, and when I was introduced to BAYAC AmeriCorps  I saw a perfect opportunity to give back to my community. While serving , I discovered the most important thing I have to offer is my presence , my attention, and my time. I hope to have a huge impact on the youth by empowering them to believe that their voices matter , and give them the support and guidance to be successful.”

Our AmeriCorps Members

BAYAC AmeriCorps provides over 130 full-time service term opportunities in youth development at local schools, non-profit organizations, and youth oriented programs such as academic engagement, social emotional learning, science technology and math, creative writing, arts, gardening and health and wellness.  We seek members who are passionate about serving as caring adult role models with a growth mind set and are committed to learning and developing themselves.  Members will be prepared to hold a position in youth development work and succeed in their next professional endeavor as well as develop a robust professional network in the youth development field. Members develop meaningful and supportive relationships with youth they serve, and build community through a year of service in schools or community-based organizations, attend regular trainings and activities with fellow AmeriCorps members, and participate in community service projects throughout the Bay Area.  Members receive a $1430 monthly living allowance and upon completion of the service year, are eligible for an education award from the National Service Trust that may be used for qualifying existing education loans or future education opportunities.
